Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 12, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what personal information Alpha Lyrae Limited ('Thalia', 'we', 'us') collects when you use the Thalia apps and website, how we use it, and the rights you have. We are the data controller responsible for your information.
Who we are
Thalia is provided by Alpha Lyrae Limited, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 17005875, with its registered office at International House, 64 Nile Street, London, N1 7SR, United Kingdom. For any privacy question or request, email us at support-thalia@alpha-lyrae.co.
Information we collect
Account details: your email address, the name or nickname you choose, and your date of birth. Content you create: the events, wishlists, gifts, photos, and guest lists you add, and the gift claims you make. Invitation details: the email addresses of the guests you invite. Subscription details: your Thalia Unlimited status, which we receive from our payments provider (we never see your full payment card details). Technical and usage data: limited device and app information, along with analytics about how the app is used, which helps us improve it and fix bugs.
How we use your information
We use your information to create and secure your account, run the Service and sync your events across your devices, send invitations to the guests you choose, send transactional and important announcement emails (we do not send marketing emails), understand product usage and fix bugs so we can improve Thalia, manage subscriptions, and meet our legal obligations.
Our legal bases
Where the UK GDPR and EU GDPR apply, we rely on the following legal bases: performing our contract with you to provide the Service, our legitimate interests in keeping Thalia secure and improving it, your consent where we ask for it, and compliance with our legal obligations. You can withdraw any consent you give at any time.
When you invite others
When you invite a guest, you give us their email address so we can send the invitation and, if they do not have an account, prompt them to download the app. Please only invite people who are happy to hear from you. If someone does not want to receive invitations, they can contact us and we will remove their address.
How we share information
We never sell your personal information and we never use it for advertising. We share it only with the service providers that help us run Thalia, under contracts that require them to protect it: Oracle Cloud for hosting, PostHog and Tapp for analytics, RevenueCat for managing subscriptions, and Apple and Google for app distribution and sign in. We may also share information where the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of our users and Thalia.
Where your information is stored
Your information is stored and processed on servers located in Europe. Some of our service providers may process limited data outside the European Economic Area. When they do, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as the European Commission's standard contractual clauses, to protect it.
How long we keep it
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your personal data immediately. We may keep a limited amount of information for longer only where the law requires it.
How we protect your information
We use encryption in transit and at rest, along with other technical and organizational measures, to protect your information. No service can be completely secure, so we also ask you to help by keeping your login details private.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you have rights over your personal information, including the right to access it, correct it, delete it, receive a copy of it, and object to or restrict certain uses. You can access, export, or delete your data at any time from the app settings, or by emailing support-thalia@alpha-lyrae.co. If you are in the UK or EU and are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to your local data protection authority, such as the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
Children
Thalia is not intended for children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has given us their information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make a material change, we will let you know through the app or by email. The date at the top shows when it was last updated.
